Enabling sign-in/up with Google

When active, Kinde allows you to sign-in/up with your Google credentials. To be able to use this, you have to create authorization credentials with Google.

This guide demonstrates how to create authorization credentials with Google and add them to Kinde.

Create Google credentials

Unfortunately, the steps in Google’s Create authorization credentials section don’t reflect the steps in Google Cloud. Therefore, use the following steps until Google’s documentation gets updated:

Prerequisites

1. A Google Cloud account.
2. A Google Cloud project.
3. A configured consent screen via the OAuth consent screen page under APIs and services.

Steps

1. Select the project you wish to assign authorization credentials.
2. Navigate to the Credentials page under APIs and services.
3. At the top of the page, select Create Credentials, then the OAuth client ID option.
4. Select Web application from the Application type select list.
5. Name your OAuth 2.0 client and click Create.
6. Copy your Client ID and Secret from the confirmation window.

Add credentials to Kinde

Now that you have your authorization credentials from Google, you can add them to Kinde.

Steps

1. Sign in to Kinde admin.

2. Navigate to the Settings page.

3. Turn on the Google 3rd party authenticator under the Authentication types / 3rd party authentication section.

   Note: As covered in the 3rd party authentication document, you may have already turned it on using Kinde’s default credentials.

4. Select the Configure link.

5. Paste your Client ID and Secret from the Create Google credentials steps into the two fields and save the form.
